Photos in photo albums or displayed in frames on the wall in the living room or den can be proudly shown to family members and friends of the trophy buck or large doe that was harvested.

It is a special event to celebrate when a youth bags their first deer. It is a proud father who takes a photo for the family album of his son or daughter next to their first buck or doe. Snapping photographs of each deer harvested whether it is a small button buck or yearling provides a time line of the number of deer kills in one’s lifetime. Albums with deer hunting pictures that are passed down from one generation to the next become treasured memories of a father, grandfather, or even great grandfather who had a passion for deer hunting. Since more women are joining in the hunt, albums include deer harvested by mom or grandma as well.

Deer hunting pictures including hunters, blinds, tree stands, and the surroundings also make memorable photos. Photos of the preparations taken before the hunt, the deer hunt itself, and even the butchering process can be taken. It is currently very popular to take deer hunting pictures on a camcorder to post on hunting websites and social websites. Other popular sites such as YouTube display hunting pictures for the world to see. This is also an excellent teaching tool for new hunters to review before going out on their first hunt or for seasoned hunters to refresh their hunting skills. Photos of special significance can be enlarged and displayed beside the mount of the trophy animal.

Deers are beautiful and graceful animals. Deer hunting pictures also include photos of live deer and their yearlings depicting the wonders of nature. Hunters live to bag that one trophy buck, but some cannot bring themselves to end the life of such a massive animal once they do find him. In that case, a photo will suffice to show others the one that got away.

The next time when you are preparing for deer hunting, better make yourself aware of the applicable laws of different states and not only of the deer. Get yourself prepared before you steps in the forest to hunt the deer. At the same time I try to make myself secure with better weapons than those old fashioned bows and arrows.

Many successful hunters never acquire this knowledge, depending solely on luck in their hunting. In a territory where deer are plentiful, this results in their bagging a deer with fair regularity, yet the actual shooting of a deer is only a small part of the enjoyment that a sportsman finds on a hunt. When a man goes into the woods, meets a deer in its own element, outwits the animal and succeeds in killing it with a well-placed shot, his satisfaction will be much greater than in the mere killing of a deer that he has accidentally encountered. To be sure, he can return home and embellish his story, belying the fact that it was more or less an accident that he bagged the animal. He has the deer for proof of his tale, but until he comes to believe the story himself, there will always be a slight feeling of dissatisfaction about that particular hunt.

A very successful hunter once told me that deer hunting was ninety per cent luck and ten per cent good marksmanship. He had hunted for a good many years and should have known what he was talking about. “All that a man needs to do to shoot a deer,” he said, “is to be in the right place at the right time and to be able to hit any deer that he sees.”

This man believed it was luck that placed him at the right place at the right time, but I am sure that the knowledge that he had unconsciously acquired about the habits of the deer in the territory where he hunted had a lot to do in enabling him to shoot most of his deer. While luck certainly plays an important part in deer hunting, the man who depends entirely on it is very apt to be disappointed at the end of the hunt. The need for hunting knowledge varies with the method used while hunting. It requires little knowledge to shoot a deer in the nighttime with the aid of a light.

This is nothing but butchery of a bewildered defenseless animal. On the other hand, the man who enters the woods armed with a bow and a few arrows, which attempt to outwit an animal in full possession of all its faculties, must have a thorough knowledge of that animal to be successful. I am not in favor of bow-and-arrow hunting for everyone, for, although the hunting arrow is deadly in the hands of an expert, the average hunter is too unfamiliar with the weapon to make clean kills–a necessary part of good sportsmanship.

Quite a few men, with more patience than I possess, bag their deer by continually watching some popular game trail, or crossing, until a deer comes along. There is one man whom I have often met at the same place in the woods where a deer trail crosses a small stream. I think that he is there every morning during the season, from daybreak to midmorning, until he shoots his deer. I would estimate that he has killed ten or twelve deer at that crossing. One year there were very few deer in that immediate area. As faras I knew, there was only one doe that had raised her twin fawns within two miles of that spot. There were plenty of deer in the surrounding country, but for some reason, they seemed to shun that particular area. One day I mentioned the scarcity of deer to him, suggesting that some other crossing might be more productive that year. He merely said, “I’ve done pretty well here in the past and I reckon that I will give it a few more days before making a change.” The next day I met him on the road and he had a nice buck on his car. I had forgotten that his crossing was one that was favored by bucks traveling across country from one herd to another, in search of does.

Although this crossing watching requires more patience than the average hunter possesses, it usually pays off with a deer. Quite a bit of knowledge of the country and of the movement of deer is necessary, yet patience is the most important qualification that a man must have in order to be consistently successful in this type of hunting.

There are fair laws for both the hunters and the animals. So always be on the safer side of the law to avoid any unnecessary trouble that you might face otherwise. Some time you need more patience to continually watch the movements of the deer, which I don’t possess. People like the one I met in the forest even after hearing about the scarcity of deer still sits on the same spot waiting for the deer. And for this you need a fair knowledge of the country and the movement of deer can be of good use during the hunting.

It is a once a year industry or is it? Every year Mississippi land is bought up by hunters from other states and in particular South Mississippi has a major influx from Louisiana hunters. There are over 304,000 people that participate in deer hunting in Mississippi each year and out of that number over 66,000 are non residents.  Each year hunting in Mississippi is a $ 520 million dollar business and deer hunting in particular has over $ 233 million dollars spent chasing that monster buck for their wall hanger and that tender doe for the breakfast table. With an impact like this you can see the driving force for land to go along with all the gear you must have the land before you can hunt right?

With over 66,000 hunters coming from other states like Louisiana and our out of state brethren spending over $ 88 million dollars themselves on deer hunting it is easy to see the need to have these individuals continue coming to Mississippi and helping out our economic situation.

Now with all these numbers I have gone over there is no clear cut dollar figure on what non residents spend on land but when it comes to Mississippi land for sale in the south part of the state that number is significant.

I have been in the land business for almost twenty years and in that time the majority of land buyers for property over 20 acres comes from Louisiana. I am talking about the southern part of Mississippi land in particular, counties like Pike, Wilkinson, Walthall, Amite, Lincoln, Franklin, and Adams just to name a few that benefit from out of state buyer.

With Mississippi land prices thirty years past the old Ag standard for setting the price of an acre, MS shifted to a recreational price line that’s hard to figure out. Amite County for instance has lower taxes and some really good whitetail deer so that makes the price of an acre of land here a little higher. Wilkinson County also has great deer but you will see some much rougher country to hunt in like hills and hollows that you really don’t see in Amite and Pike Counties.

I have heard entrenched old timers complain about the out of state deer hunters and what it has done to Mississippi land for sale, I have been in the land sales business in all of the counties mentioned and I am hear to tell you if it wasn’t for the Louisiana sportsman and that Louisiana dollar South Mississippi would feel a vacuum in everything from land prices which in its self would not be horrible but along with Mississippi land sales these folks are buying everything from ATV’s, guns, clothing, plot planting supplies to gas for the truck, I can assure you Mississippi needs this influx of yearly revenue.

Being in the Mississippi land for sale business for as long as I have I for one am glade to the Louisiana folks coming hear and enjoying our outdoor sports, we need to be thankful because if they left it would be a hard negative impact on South Mississippi business.

Tips For Your First Time Out

Start Early

Hunting seasons are limited by certian dates and times. Guns can not be fired before sunrise or after sunset for the safety of all concerned. However you should be prepared to hunt early. Get out there and settle in before the sun comes up to lessen the possiblity of being noticed. This also allows you to be prepared when the first whitetail deer begins to move around. Experienced hunters will tell you that the best time to bag a whitetail deer is at sunrise and sunset.

Avoid Scents

Just as important as covering your scent you should also never wear perfume, cologne, aftershave or strongly scented aftershave. Human smells spook whitetail deer easily, one of the best hunting tips to keep in mind is to let the wilderness cover your smell. This is one of the few times in life when showering later rather than earlier is better.

Silence

You are out there to have fun with friends and family but whitetail deer tend to have a very keen sense of hearing and anything louder then a whisper may be heard. Even the smallest sound as you are lining up for a shot can scare an animal.

A healthy deer herd is one of the most important factors contributing to a successful hunting season. Many hunters don’t realize that the key to harvesting big bucks is nutrition. Look at the record books and tell me where all the monster bucks come from. Most of the highest scoring bucks ever have been taken from the midwest. These deer are able to grow large antlers and size because of nutrition. The midwest is covered with farms and the deer use this as their major food source. With all the nutrients comes an increased weight and antler growth.

That is how they do it, so if you don’t live in the midwest, can this still be done? The answer is yes, but it involves some work. If you want to harvest large bucks then you will need to follow some QDMA standards. That is only harvesting bucks that have at least four points on one side and are at least fifteen inches wide.

This is simply for starters, if you want larger bucks then up the standards and nutrition program.

If you want to grow large bucks then you will have to keep an available food source open to deer all year long. Most hunters will feed their deer before the season and will leave them alone after. The winter months are when deer need food the most. So what happens? The deer will go looking for food and will probably find some on someone elses property. If you want to keep them on your property then you will need to leave food for them. So try to either plant a food plot or keep a feeder full of some nutritional feed.
